Mason and Finely are 5 month old today and growing like weeds! Check-ups have been great and they are right on track with developments for their age. Weight is the only thing they are behind in, but steady progress is being made with that, eating every 2-3 hours during the day! Sometimes it feels like we can't give them enough to eat and wonder where they are putting it all. Two weeks ago at their last RSV shot for the cold/flu season they weighed in at 12.5 lbs and 9.6 lbs. In June we will be taking them both to Baptist Hospital for helmets. Mason really needs one to help reshape the back of her head, it's quite flat. Finley hopefully won't have to wear one. Tanner wore one of these so this is nothing new to us.

Back in March Mason had a check-up with Hematology/Oncology and her surgeon at UNC . Her new bottom has healed up nicely and looks great. She was also scheduled that day for an MRI to make sure there is no re-growth, which was a disaster. After trying two times to get an IV in for the MRI dye contrast on her hand and foot, we got one on her scalp. Both baby and mom were very upset after 10 min of screams and pokes. They thought of an IV on the head was scary but turned out to be the easiest. Once at the MRI we found out that we had to wait an additional 2 hrs because not enough time had lapsed since Mason last ate and they would not start the sedation until she was 6 hrs without food. We didn't receive the MRI prep paperwork so we were not prepared. So we killed 2 hours, holding her wrapped in a blanket with an IV in her scalp at the hospital and then checked back into MRI. The first dose of sedation worked, so we thought. Once she was taken by the nurse I slipped out for a minute to call and check on Finley only to come back to a screaming baby waiting for me. She woke up as soon as she was put on the MRI table. We tried another 1/2 dose and that worked. I took Mason myself the 2nd time and placed her on the MRI table and left. 45 min later the nurse came back and said she woke up before we could finish. By this time it was 3:30pm and we had been at the hospital since 7:45am and Mason hadn't eaten since before that. She was hungry and worn out. They only got 75% done and of course it wasn't the 75% that we needed but we couldn't do anything more that day. The doctors feel that she is fine and we aren't going to do the MRI again until the fall.

The girls spend most of their days wide awake playing, eating and keeping mom very busy. Not much gets done outside of taking care of the the two of them. Naps are short lived and usually they don't nap at the same time no matter how hard we attempt to make that work. The best naps are taken in their car seats while driving around. We do get out with them some to run errands and pick up Tanner from school, but carrying two around is a tough job. They are sleeping pretty good at night but do love to snuggle with mom and dad either in bed or in our arms. Tanner continues to entertain them by singing songs, dancing and being silly with them. "May May" and "Fin Fin" is what he calls them. He can't wait for them to be able to get down on the floor and play with him. It won't be much longer before that happens.

Happy Easter!
