Successful Tumor Removal

Mason went in for surgery on Thursday 11/13 afternoon and by 6:30pm she was a pound less and has a beautiful new bottom. She tolerated surgery very well and is still on the ventilator that was placed on her for surgery, but that should be off tonight or tomorrow. The surgeon said that the tumor was completely covered by her glute muscles and under the muscles was a paper thin layer containing the fluid that made up the tumor. He was able to peel away the muscles, remove the tumor and then fold the muscles up to make 2 bottom "cheeks". Her tail bone was also removed since it is useless and it's where the tumor originated, hence the name Sacrococcygeal Teratoma. Removal lessens the chance of a regrowth. None of her bowels or reproductive organs needed reconstruction and they are working just fine.

What a blessing to have such a successful surgery. Mason continues to recover and wake up from surgery and hopefully we can hold her in the next few days.

We visit the girls often throughout the day. Today I was able to change Finley's tiny diaper and hold her. We try to be involved in the care of the girls even though it's minimal right now. Finley is doing well and loves to stretch out. Her right foot is always doing some kind or wiggling or stretching. That is the foot that I always had pushing on my right rib cage. Somehow she is able to arch her back and lift it off of her bed. She is very fiesty!

I am being discharged from the hospital tomorrow and headed back to mom and dad's house. More updates to come.
