Two Weeks Old

Two weeks old, growing and changing each day. We have been able to spend a lot of time with the girls over the last two weeks. The nurses are taking great care of them and seem to love "the little blonde twins". We really have a lot to be thankful for this year.

Mason has probably changed the most out of the two. She is weighing in at 3 lbs 6 oz as of today. The test results came back from pathology and the tumor was benign. It measured in at 1 lb of fluid and 2-3 oz of skin. It was very large! Since there is a chance of regrowth, though slim to none, she will need to be checked through out her life. The surgeon comes by often and at the end of last week he took off the dressing over the stitches and he thinks her new bottom looks great. Mason has been doing very well with her feedings, even taking some from a bottle for the first time. She wears clothing now to help her learn to maintain her body temp and she looks so cute in the preemie clothes that swallow her. But it won't be long before she outgrows the preemie size.

Finley is still the quiet, sleepy one who looks so cute resting in her isolette with only a diaper on. She is weighing in at 2 lbs 6 oz. She too is changing, gaining weight and stretching all the time. Once Finley gets a little bigger she will be able to wear clothes like her sister.

Both girls have not needed the Bilirubbin lights since last week and their Bili levels continue to stay down. They also both had their IV's taken out since they have increased the amount of milk they can take. It's so nice not to see that in their tiny hands. They only have the feeding tube and the heart rate, breathing, blood pressure monitors on them. Their major goals to get home are to take all feedings by mouth, maintain body temp and gain weight. We would love to have them home by Christmas, but until then we are checking into having them transferred to Women's Hospital in Greensboro to have them closer. Hopefully we can get them there soon.
